In August 2015, Parkland Hospital opened its doors in Dallas, Texas as the first public hospital to base decisions about the built-environment with an evidence-based design (EBD) strategy as the guiding principle. The hospital exemplifies how facility design can improve the quality of care for patients, attract more patients, recruit and retain staff, and enhance operational efficiency and productivity.
Recognizing the link between the physical environment and patient and staff outcomes, the hospital’s design team implemented its EBD strategy into a meaningful and financially sound design and construction plan. To create an environment of care that supports streamlined processes, new tech and nurturing design elements, the team identified five proven strategies:
The five strategies above drove decision-making in the hospital’s flooring selection process, and after extensive testing methods, the team chose noraplan environcareTM for the new building. The premium rubber flooring was installed across more than 750,000 square feet of corridors, labs, pharmacies, staff areas, radiology and nurseries.
