Low-emission building materials play an important role in the new construction at the Erasmus MC. In close collaboration with the hospital and the architect, a deliberate choice was made to opt for rubber floor coverings from nora, which have the Finnish M1 eco-label and the German Blue Angel certification.
The most important criteria were the quality, durability, same design for areas with different technical properties, a homogeneous product with no added top coating and maintenance in the long term. The operating costs are low because no additional periodic maintenance is required.

About the project

There is an enormous amount of interest in the Erasmus MC throughout Europe. This is not just because of name recognition, but also the duration of the project. Thus use was made of “Evidence-Based Design”, as well as developments that have already proven themselves in practice. The patient and client perspective played a significant role in the development of the new building plans.

Challenge

The university hospital’s new building had to meet extremely stringent requirements. This concerned demands for quality and hygiene, for example. nora flooring systems has been involved in the construction of the Erasmus MC for over a decade and was selected as a reliable supplier because of a number of distinctive product features, the primary triggers being durability and low maintenance costs.
