Bergman Clinics, The Netherlands

The creation of a positive healing environment is receiving increased attention in the construction and renovation of hospitals and clinics. Holistic color and design concepts create spaces that not only meet the needs of patients; but also those of doctors and nurses.

The materials used additionally contribute to a pleasant working environment. Floor coverings play an important role in this – as doctors and nurses must often stand for hours on end, both in intensive care and in the OR.

The building’s design must be of the same high standard as the care provided. That’s why Bergman Clinics relies on rubber floor coverings from nora flooring systems. These satisfy the very highest demands in terms of functionality and appearance, and simultaneously provide exceptional ergonomic comfort. Being able to function comfortably is of the utmost importance, particularly in the operating room, where personnel perform highly concentrated work.

Bergman Clinics is a Ministry of Health approved institution for specialist medical care and, in the last 25 years, has evolved into the most prominent, leading chain of independent clinics in the Netherlands. Bergman Clinics boasts 5 divisions, with 22 sites located throughout the Netherlands.

Bergman Clinics provides care to five target groups: Skin and Beauty Clinic (cosmetic surgery, varicose veins and skin care), Movement Care Clinic (orthopedics, spinal surgery and sports injuries), Internal Care Clinic (gastrointestinal care, cardiology and obesity), Women’s Care Clinic (pelvic floor care, sterilization and abnormal cervical smears) and Eye Care Clinic (refractive surgery and general ophthalmology).

Rubber floor coverings with numerous benefits

The client required a floor covering of the highest quality, which would simultaneously highlight the modern design of Bergman Clinics.

“The natural durability of rubber, the reduced cost of ownership and the fact that their floors are free from plasticizers, were our key reasons for choosing nora,” says Gerben Nahuys, Facility Coordinator & Medical Technology at Bergman Clinics.

Easy and cost-effective to clean

A dense, non-porous surface makes nora rubber floor coverings exceptionally durable and easy to clean. It also keeps them looking as good as new, even after years of intensive use. And, unlike other resilient floor coverings, they require no coating. As maintenance costs account for some 90 percent of the lifecycle costs for floor coverings, they also represent the most cost-effective, long-term solution.

Free from plasticizers

nora floor coverings are free from plasticizers (phthalates) and halogens (e.g. chlorine). This not only makes them environmentally friendly; it also prevents shrinkage and leaves them more stable than other types of floor covering.

nora products therefore guarantee a healthy indoor environment. Which is why in 2006 they were the first elastic floor covering to be awarded the “Blue Angel” environmental label.

Exceptionally hygienic properties

These rubber floor coverings also boast a number of hygiene benefits: They are impervious to dirt and resistant to surface disinfectants. Brief exposure to solvents, diluted acids and alkalis also leaves no traces. Even iodine/ chlorhexidine-containing skin disinfectants can be readily removed without leaving any residue.

Unlike other resilient floor coverings, nora rubber floor coverings do not require coating. This not only saves time and money; it also enables continuous operation – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

As they make a significant contribution to the economic success of hospitals and clinics, this is of particular importance in operation complexes. With their long life span, nora floor coverings make an excellent choice in this regard too.
