Laying the ground for world history in Zhejiang Museum

Rubber flooring fosters a natural ambience

The Anji branch of the Zhejiang Museum of Natural History opened on 28 December 2018. Located in the Eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang, it covers an area of around 200,000 m2, while the building itself measures around 61,000 m2.

The themed exhibition areas explore various aspects of our planet, including Oceans and Ecology. The geology exhibition explains the structure of the Earth and its millions of years of development. The exhibition on the region’s dinosaurs, which presents the colossal creatures’ chronological progression through the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods using magnificent models, is a particular highlight.

Dark, earthy colours for a natural colour concept

Dark, earthy tones were used for the interior design in order to keep with the natural themes of the museum and its exhibition spaces. This concept is also reflected in the flooring: an assortment of norament rubber floor coverings in various shades of grey and beige were used for the rooms, corridors and hallways. The slate-like look of the norament 926 arago flooring emphasises the museum’s association with nature and creates an impressive ambience.

Durable and safe

The norament rubber floors installed in Anji are ideal for museum areas: available in a wide range of colours, the floors also offer a high level of tread and slip resistance for all visitors. This significantly reduces the risk of injury due to falls (e. g. by children). Like all nora rubber floorings, norament floor coverings also have excellent fire retardant properties, which is an important safety aspect for public areas with a high number of visitors. Furthermore, due to their extremely dense surface, nora floors are very robust and durable, and do not need coating or sealing during their entire service life. As a result, they are economical to maintain in the long term and have an impressively positive life cycle cost balance. They can also be completely disinfected if necessary, which is a great advantage, particularly in the context of increased hygiene requirements.

Sound-absorbing and ergonomic

It was also essential for the flooring to be soundabsorbing. Good acoustics are critical for a museum of such size, as they minimize disturbance to the large number of visitors. Thanks to their high permanent resilience, the rubber floor coverings dampen the noise of footsteps considerably and help provide a quiet atmosphere. nora rubber floor coverings also have excellent ergonomic properties: they make walking and standing more comfortable, which in turn improves the museum experience.

nora floor coverings deliver a combination of stylish aesthetic and maximum functionality. In modern museums, they present an attractive design element, while offering comprehensive safety.
