A proven flooring solution for a new museum

Rubber floor coverings with impressive functionality, design and service life

Sanxingdui Museum is a testament to China’s rich cultural heritage. Located in the city of Guanghan in Sichuan Province, the museum houses a huge range of finds from the Sanxingdui archaeological site. This site plays a significant role in research into ancient Chinese civilization and the museum is famous for its impressive collection of bronze masks, jade artefacts and pottery. The exhibits offer an insight into a unique culture of the late Neolithic period.

In order to provide the finest possible housing for these valuable artefacts, norament® 926 arago rubber tiles by nora were used to cover the 10,000 square metres of museum. This flooring provides firstclass sound absorbency, durability and slip resistance.

No welding achieves uniform monochrome surface effect CSWADI, who were responsible for designing the museum, knew that nora floorings would meet all the requirements. “nora floor coverings have proven themselves over years on one of our previous projects, a geriatric clinic in Sichuan, so we used one of nora’s rubber floor coverings for Sanxingdui Museum”, says a spokesperson for CSWADI. “What impressed us most were the attractive design, excellent functional properties and opportunities provided by a flooring that requires no welding — it looks as if it were laid as a single piece.”

Long service life for resource conservation “nora rubber floor coverings boast durability, longevity, and effortless maintenance, ensuring an enduring and resilient solution for our space”, says CSWADI’s spokesperson. “As such, they are ideal for heavytraffic spaces such as museums.” How often a flooring needs to be replaced during a building’s service life has a significant effect on both cost and environmental impact. A resistant floor covering conserves more resources, with the result that it is both more sustainable and economical. When subjected to normal levels of stress, norament floorings have a service life of over 40 years. “The combination of a long service life and being easy to clean has a positive effect on the life cycle cost and the environmental footprint of the building”, says the spokesperson.

Robust, long-lasting and easy to maintain, nora rubber floors have a decisive impact on the sustainability of pioneering exhibition concepts.
