Rubber flooring helps to create a conducive environment for learning and teaching

A pleasant learning environment boosts creativity and allows people to achieve more. For young children, in particular, a friendly, inviting ambience is important when they are spending much of the day learning. A harmonious design concept can make a school both a place of learning and a living space. Well thought-out design and colour concepts can enhance the positive atmosphere and encourage learning. These criteria were foremost in minds of the designers of the new Jinding Campus at Shanghai Pinghe Bilingual School, a renowned private educational establishment in China. “Good design must be timeless and it must suit the building”, says Su Tao, Designer at the East China Architectural Design & Research Institute. “It is vital that users feel completely at ease — a pleasant atmosphere is the goal of every architectural concept.” The furnishings, walls and floors all play essential roles in creating this attractive ambience. Having had a positive experience with a previous flooring project at Pinghe Bilingual School, the decision-makers again choose nora rubber floors for the new campus, which opened in 2022. “nora’s rubber floorings met all requirements perfectly”, says Su Tao. “They are robust, visually appealing and easy to clean — and they also improve the room acoustics.” As the sustainability of the building and the materials used constituted a decisive planning criterion, nora floorings’ low life cycle costs were another key factor.

Rubber floors for modern learning spaces and good room acoustics

The interior of the facility features a modern design concept that is complemented perfectly by the nora rubber floorings. The staircase and extensive thoroughfares use floor coverings in subtle shades of grey with a few orange accents. A total of 30,000 m2 of nora rubber floor coverings in five different designs were installed. Chosen from the norament and noraplan ranges, these designs combine harmoniously to create an attractive aesthetic.
