Children’s of Alabama: Benjamin Russel Hospital

Children’s of Alabama has been providing specialized medical care for children across the state of Alabama and throughout the southeastern United States for over 100 years. Covering more than 2 million square feet, it is the third largest pediatric facility in the United States. With the opening of the new Benjamin Russell Hospital for Children, the hospital system has moved the majority of its inpatient services into the new 760,000-square-foot facility.

Before installing nora^® flooring in their brand new dream facility, officials at Children’s of Alabama installed the rubber flooring in an emergency room and gym in one of the health system’s existing buildings. After witnessing the durability and sustained performance of the 3mm product in the gym, officials decided to install noraplan environcare™ in a variety of areas in the new facility. Finding a flooring material that never requires wax ranked highly on facility planners’ wish list, so the installation of nora resonated with building personnel and the environmental services team. Being able to efficiently maintain the floors and consistently keep them looking great were major factors for the team, both in terms of presenting a clean, pleasant, quiet atmosphere for children and supporting sustainable initiatives by not introducing harmful chemicals to the cleaning regimen.
